Peony Carol (Bockstoce 1955)
Peony Carol has huge double, rich velvety red blooms with large petals arranged as a rosette, these large flowers need support, great show flower and cut, early midseason bloom on strong stems, 28" - 34" tall. Stems are strong but should be supported for the extra large blooms. Cut them for use in a georgeous arrangement in a vase. Outstanding color and full form. Plant in full sun in well drained soil. Peony Festiva Maxima is often substituted with inferior whites with red flares but the true Festiva maxima is a tall massive globular double white with red flares is one of the oldest and still one of the best very fragrant lactiflora whites. Midseason, 36". The healthy , dark green and large foliage is very distinctive. Needs staking to support the large blooms in the garden. As a cut flower it is still very beautiful.
