| Week 5 Mid-late blooming peonies are dominated by the garden peonies most people think of when peonies are mentioned. This week is characterized by a finishing up of the hybrid peonies and the lactiflora or common garden peony begining it's reign supreme right up to the end of the peony bloom season. Included are the single, semi-double and double form lactiflora peonies with multiple blooms per stem. |

Peony Accent (Bigger 1979)
Peony Accent is a very fine double, dark red, with a rose type shape that is notably fragrant. It has a very well proportioned flower on a 32" stem with dark green foliage. The large flowers appear in the late part of peony bloom season which is often absent of red doubles which typically bloom earlier in the season. It's excellent plant habit includes; disease resistant foliage that covers the entire stem and very good strong stems. Difficult to find this one offered by many specialty peony growers it was in high demand last season so our stocks are limited this year. Fragrant. Week 5 bloom rating.

Peony Amalia Olson is not only the 2011 APS Gold Medal winner but a gorgeous white bomb double flower with an exceptionally long bloom period. A very dependable opener when temperatures are hot. Peony Andrew Meuglig (Unknown)
Peony Andrew Meuglig is an early blooming, bright pink, double peony that has strong stems and is one of the first large flowered pink double peonies to bloom in your
gardens and fields providing a bright splash of color. The strong stems are 30" tall.
The plant habit is very neat with healthy green foliage all season long. Rare and difficult to find but a very clear and beautiful double pink early blooming peony.

Peony Aztec (Nicholls 1941)
Peony Aztec is a red Japanese form peony that blooms midseason. Its large flower is a bright scarlet rose, staminodes rose with orange-rose, tipped with bright gold. Wind and rain resistant. Plant in full sun. We have a limited supply this season and once sold out it will be available to order next in 2015. Difficult to find this particular variety offered many places. Peony Battle Flag (Nicholls 1941)
Peony Battle Flag is an Imperial or Japanese form red peony has consistently been a garden favorite. It is the very deep glowing red color that is such an attraction and often picked out ahead of other similar varieties. Staminodes are also red with yellow back sides. Midseason bloom.

Peony Ben Erickson (Tischler 1999)
Peony Ben Erickson is a rare peony from Bob Tischler named for his then youngest grandson, it has brilliant 5-6" red blooms are highlighted by bright yellow stamens that will peak through as the flower is opening until the petals are fully expanded. Midseason blooms are held on strong stems. This Tischler peony named for Bob’s grandson is difficult to find as it had a very limited distribution.

Peony Blanche King was introduced by the Brand Peony farm is a very large globe shaped double dark pink blooms with large overlapping incurved petals. It blooms late midseason on strong upright stems bearing rich green foliage. Many of these historic older varieties are becoming harder to find as the number of specialty nurseries decline.

Peony Boule de Neige (Calot 1867)
Peony Boule de Neige - This ancient and very rare French variety was introduced by Calot in 1867 and survives today due to it’s prolific bloom production. It's blooms are nearly as large as those of Festiva maxima with which it blooms nearly at the same time. However, while it has the same prominent red markings in the center of the flower the flowers are also accented by a golden glow from the stamens at the center of the blooms. For the authentic restoration of historic gardens this is a perfectly lovely variety to choose. Plant in full sun. Week 5 bloom date rating.

Peony Carol (Bockstoce 1955)
Peony Carol has huge double, rich velvety red blooms with large petals arranged as a rosette, these large flowers need support, great show flower and cut, early midseason bloom on strong stems, 28" - 34" tall.
