Paeonia arietina SOLD OUT

Paeonia arietina
This species is rarely found in part because of confusion as to it's true identity. For a long while it was listed as a sub-species of mascula but the root structure is entirely different than P. mascula being closer to P. officinalis with tuberous roots. The seed pods are also quite distinct compared to other closely related species. Some of the most beautiful rosy-pink 5” blooms are born on on plants 24” tall or taller. The color often being clearer pink than in P. officinallis there have been darker and lighter color forms mentioned in older peony literature. Early to bloom it has delightful foliage adding to it's interest. P. arietina requires excellent drainage and full sun to perform well. We do not recommend growing this species in heavy clay soil that may be water saturated at any time during the growing season. Quite fertile it can produce a lot of seed and will hybridize with other tetraploid peonies offering an rewarding way for you to expand your interest in growing peonies. Mature 2-3 eye divisions.
