Peony Illini Warrior more brilliant in color than Illini Belle, this hybrid by Auten is every bit as beautiful and vigorous as others in this color group. A single deep red hybrid, early blooming, 32" tall deep red colored blooms on strong supporting stems with dark green foliage, vigorous growing. Peony Laura Dessert. Double Anemone form, may have a pink cast to petals while the bud is opening and a distinct lemon yellow ball of petals when first open. Strong grower and quite generous bloomer. Holds color nicely when cut early and brought in for display where its fragrance can be admired. The foliage is a very healthy dark green. One of my top 10 personal favorites. Plant in full sun. Peony Mahogany ALM (Glasscock 1937)
Peony Mahogany is a wonderful Glasscock Hybrid that has a Japanese form that looks like a single but with out any pollen, large cup shaped deep mahogany red flowers very early in the peony bloom season. Sweetly fragrant flowers are held on strong 28- 30" stems. The lighter markings on the out side of the petals become more prominent as the flower ages and the bloom becomes bigger. Light green foliage. Sought after by collectors it is noted for its pale green-gold foliage in the spring. Plant in full sun in a well drained soil. Week 4 bloom date rating. Limited to half a dozen divisions this year and then it will be retired for stock increase until 2016.
