Peonies O-P

Species peonies are the darlings of the peony world with their charming and simple flower forms. Early blooming and interesting foliage adds to their garden interest. Supplies of the species are limited and take special care to produce them. To avoid disapointment we recommend you not wait until bloom season to place your order. Our species are always mature divisions, not unproved or unbloomed seedlings that take years to reach bloom size.

Pom Pom  (Tischler 1972)
Although registered with a very brief description as a, “Double, mid-season dark pink.“ The introducers catalog description is perhaps more accurate where he listed it with the Japanese forms, “A dark rose-pink of striking color. The center is striking yellow and with a pink tint at the base. Blooms mid-season. Very attractive.“ In our fields it has occasionally bloomed as an anemone double.

Prairie Moon  (Fay 1959)
Large soft creamy yellow blooms make this hybrid peony much sought after. Semi-double early on 32" stems. Some claim it is one of the most beautiful of the hybrid peonies. Plant has extra strong stems of medium height. The foliage is bright glossy green and holds this color until frost. The flower can be a full double some years and rather single when first planted so let it settle in for two years before judging it’s value. It is suitable as a cut flower also.
