Species peonies are the darlings of the peony world with their charming and simple flower forms. Early blooming and interesting foliage adds to their garden interest. Supplies of the species are limited and take special care to produce them. To avoid disapointment we recommend you not wait until bloom season to place your order. Our species are always mature divisions, not unproved or unbloomed seedlings that take years to reach bloom size.

Plainsman  (Bigger 1949) This Japanese form peony has a faint pink cast when opening and becomes white as the large petals provide a perfect background for the center of gold which remains tidy and attractive as the flower ages. Pom Pom  (Tischler 1972) Although registered with a very brief description as a, “Double, mid-season dark pink.“ The introducers catalog description is perhaps more accurate where he listed it with the Japanese forms, “A dark rose-pink of striking color. Prairie Charm  (Hollingsworth 1992) Yellow flowering Itoh hybrid is a semi double bright yellow with robust leaves and red flares at the base of the petals. Prairie Moon  (Fay 1959) Large soft creamy yellow blooms make this hybrid peony much sought after. Semi-double early on 32" stems. Some claim it is one of the most beautiful of the hybrid peonies. Plant has extra strong stems of medium height. The foliage is bright glossy green and holds this color until frost.
