Tempest  (Auten 1931)
Mr. Auten was well known for the brilliant red peonies he introduced. Tempest is one of the dark red, doubles coming into bloom midseason. What makes it outstanding is its brilliant dark red color that does not fade in full sun like some other varieties. It has tall 36" stiff stems perfect for cutting to put inside in a vase. If you want larger flowers remove the side buds when they are green pea size or for a cluster like bouquet leave them on the stem. Plant in full sun.
