Peonies W-X

Walter Faxon (Richardson 1904)
As a cut flower there is no finer true pink, rich and dark with a sweet mild fragrance, medium large blooms are produced in abundance midseason. Left on the plant the blooms color will fade, especially in strong sunlight. The color has been described as a vivid pink of a luminous intensity. Delightfully fragrant it is one of my favorite pink peony doubles. Its moderate height of about 32 tall is wonderful to mix with tall beaded iris that are in bloom at the same time creating an artists garden worthy of painting.

Walter Mains (Mains 1957)
Huge Hybrid with a Japanese form glowing red, this hybrid is accented by the vibrant gold center. Show stopping blooms are held on strong stems, early in the peony bloom season. This APS Gold Medal winner will have cars slowing down to see whats blooming in your garden. The Japanese form is very rare in Hybrid peonies and this one is most likely the best of them all. Don't wait to add it to your garden as supplies are limited.

Westerner (Bigger 1942)
This is most likely our very largest yet graceful Imperial form variety of peony. Extremely large broad pink petals surround a center of bright gold on this APS Gold Medal winning Japanese form peony. Fantastic symetrical flower shape above 36 inch stems. People remember it from the fields and have to add one to their gardens. Plant in full sun. Absolutely beautiful in a simple Japanese Style flower arrangement or left on the plant to create that "oh my goodness look at the size of that flower" exclamation.

White Cap (Winchell 1956)
Stunning Japanese form with very dark pink guard petals and a crisp white center on tall 32" stiff stems. Demand always exceeds supply on this APS Gold Medal Winner and it is one of the most asked about peonies in our fields with the startling contrast of colors and regal carriage of the flowers above the foliage! Those customers who come back with repeat orders always say how happy they were to have added White Cap to their garden. Only a moderate supply this season so don't delay getting in your order.

Windchimes (Reath 1984)
Lavender pink single tenuifolia hybrid. 35", early season. Blooms face outward. Some say it is a P. veitchii selection but as it produces seed reluctantly compared to the species I think it is indeed a hybrid. The seeds also are duller and larger than the species and the root structure is larger than any of the many P. veitchii plants we grow and we have over 30 separate plants to compare it to. Regardless of whether it is a hybrid or not it is a very beautiful peony.
